CALSTAR’s COMPANY-WIDE STAND-DOWN EMPHASIZES CULTURE OF SAFETY

CALSTAR held a mandatory safety stand-down meeting for all employees on August 4 at the company’s McClellan Park headquarters in Sacramento.

With its 25-year injury-free history in mind, CALSTAR used the day to build on its industry-leading culture of safety and provide an opportunity for its staff of more than 230 pilots, flight nurses, maintenance technicians, communication specialists and administrative personnel to interact on safety concepts and practices.

“We all know that in order to continue CALSTAR’s legacy of safe operations for our patients and crews, we must exert a greater focus and energy to achieve even higher standards for safe, injury-free transports.” said President and CEO Lynn Malmstrom. “I refuse to accept that accidents are inevitable.”

The stand-down featured a keynote presentation by psychologist, aviator and industry safety expert, Jerry Cockrell, Ph.D., as well as a review of critical incidents and a Q&A session with CALSTAR leaders.

During the event, CALSTAR’s eleven Northern and Central California bases were manned by other air medical programs to minimize disruptions in service.
