CALSTAR 5 — SALINAS
37 Mortensen Avenue
Salinas, CA 93905
CALSTAR 5 was established in Salinas in April 2002. It is based at the Salinas Airport and uses the Servo Air Hanger, utilizing the MD 902 Explorer as the primary aircraft with the Bell 222 as a dedicated back-up. CALSTAR 5 primarily serves Monterey County, San Benito County, Santa Cruz County, and northern San Luis Obispo County.
CALSTAR 5 primarily serves rural and agricultural communities around Salinas. Located on the Central California coast, the city of Salinas grows 80 percent of the nation's lettuce, 50 percent of its cauliflower and mushrooms, 25 percent of its celery, 60 percent of its broccoli and 90 percent of its artichokes—thus earning it the nickname, “The Salad Bowl of the World.”
With the El Gabilan Mountains overlooking the City from the east, Salinas is a beautiful place with an active and diverse citizenry. A mere 12 miles from the Pacific Ocean and Monterey Bay, Salinas serves as the seat of Monterey County.
CALSTAR 5 is extremely grateful for the support of the Community Foundation for Monterey County and the Monterey Peninsula Foundation, host of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. These organizations have provided funding for medical and aviation equipment upgrades, and for the development of GPS instrument procedures that will allow our flight crews to serve more patients in southern Monterey County.
