CALSTAR 8 — VACAVILLE
301 County Airport Road
Vacaville, CA 95688
In 2005, Solano County and neighboring areas were left with no local air medical provider due to a contraction of services. To fill this void, CALSTAR 8 was established in Vacaville, and transported its first patient October 6, 2006. Since then more than 1000 trauma victims and other seriously ill patients have been flown from accident scenes to trauma centers and from primary care hospitals to advanced care facilities.
CALSTAR 8 operates the MBB BO-105 helicopter—not a large aircraft, but specifically designed and engineered for a high-payload. It is perfectly suited for the safe conduct of our mission. The majority of calls at CALSTAR 8 take us directly to the scene of the emergency, and whether that is a street intersection, parking lot, or a clearing in the regional parkland, this compact, nimble helicopter is ideal for close maneuvering. In addition, the rotors are safely up and out of the way, and the rotor downwash is minimal. The litters can be loaded straight in, with no tilting or turning. And the sound signature is minimal—a great advantage in serving hospitals in densely populated areas,.
Due to its high level of service, responsiveness, patient care and safety record, CALSTAR 8 currently has an agreement with Solano County Emergency Medical Services Agency to provide first-call air ambulance services throughout the county.
As part of the CALSTAR network, CALSTAR 8 also is able to respond on a regional basis to 911 system requests in adjoining counties such as Contra Costa, Napa, Yolo and Sacramento, and beyond for transports between hospitals such as Northbay Medical Center, Vaca Valley Hospital, Queen of the Valley, Sutter Solano, Kaiser Vacaville, and UC Davis Medical Center.
